Tom and Jerry Cartoon Series are one of the most successful cartoon series of all times and they are still in the hearts of young people today. It's a series that still gives happiness. Puss Gets the Boot is the First short film of the Tom and Jerry.

Puss Gets the Boot is American cartoon short film, which distributed by MGM[Metro Goldwyn-Mayer] at 1940, Feb 10. It's based on 'The Cat and The Mice' which is one of the legendary of Aesop.

In the first short film, the cat was name Jasper and portrayed as an evil street cat. And Jerry was created as Jinx[an unnamed mouse]. The basic premise was the one that would become familiar to audiences; in The Art of Hanna-Barbera, Ted Sennett sum it up as 'cat stalks and chase mouse' in a Frency of mayhem and slapstick violence.

The film was popular with critics and the audience, but studio head Fred Quimby was not initially interested in a full series with the characters. However, the commercial failure of other products of the studio convinced Quimby to try reusing Tom and Jerry. Hanna and Barbera were assigned their own production until to work on the new series.

From 1940 to 1957, Hanna and Barbera co-directed 114 short films starring Tom and Jerry. The series was a critical and popular success, winning 7 Academy Awards and being nominated for other 7. In 1955, Fred Quimby retired, and Hanna and Barbera replaced him as studio heads. But by this time production costs for the films were high, while they were less profitable than before. MGM shut down the studio in 1957.

Hanna and Barbera have been friends for 60 years, and Tom and Jerry are still our friends. For me, the part where Tom and Jerry were on the railroad was the one that really touched my heart. What about you?
